Central library displays lithographic manuscripts about Ashura

Manuscripts Center of Imam Reza shrine has put on display exquisite lithographic manuscripts centering on Ashura, the 10th of Muharram, the first month on the lunar calendar.

Among the precious manuscripts in the Central Library that illustrate Karbala and the ensuing events are ‘Matamkadeh’ by Bidel Qazvini, published in 1869; ‘Asrar al-Shahadah’ on the sufferings of Prophet Muhammad’s Infallible Household, by Ismaeil Khan Broujerdi published in 1866; ‘Toufan al-Baka’ by Mohmmad Ebrahim Johari published in 1886.

There are some 54,000 lithographic manuscripts in the Central Library of Imam Reza shrine, over 1,000 of which are concerned with Ashura and Muharram.
