Dar al-Shifa
Construction date of Imam Reza shrine’s Dar al-Shifa not precisely known; however, according to the available documents, the history of medical affairs in Imam Reza shrine is closely connected to the issue of endowment. It can now be said that the Dar al-Shifa has more than five centuries of experience in treating patients.
Today, Dar al-Shifa is a well-known place for pilgrims who have arrived from far and near distances. This medical center welcomes pilgrims and nearby patients 24/7 in different departments which are all under direct supervision of the shrine. The well-equipped Emergency Center of Imam Hasan Mojtaba courtyard with 8 temporary beds is also the most important active base of this medical center inside the shrine.
Razavi Hospital
By establishing and equipping Razavi Hospital after the victory of the Islamic Revolution, an important and noteworthy step was taken in the field of medicine in Mashhad. Razavi Hospital serves Iranian and non-Iranian patients, especially pilgrims, by providing them with the most advanced diagnostic and treatment services. High level services provided in Razavi Hospital has made this center to take the second place among the country's hospitals. This hospital has taken the first rank among the non-university hospitals of the country as well. Activities of Razavi Hospital are not limited to providing medical services and it is also active in educational and research areas.
Attention to Pharmaceutical Needs
In addition to the area of treatment, Imam Reza shrine has also had a special attention on the field of production, supply and distribution of drugs, especially those of special and incurable patients. In this regard, establishment of pharmaceutical companies and making investment in these companies under holy shrine’s Endowment Productivity Foundation have been done. Saman Pharmaceutical Company is one of the most important of these companies, which has produced a variety of pharmaceutical products. More than 40 of these products have been produced in the country for the first time.
Montaseriyeh Hospital
After the Dar al-Shifa medical center, Montaseriyeh Hospital is the second endowment-based medical complex of the city which was established from incomes of the endowed properties since 1918. Montaseriyeh Hospital has been operating for several decades; however, due to the age of building and facilities, it was closed for a while. It was finally renovated and revived with the efforts of Imam Reza shrine officials. Montaseriyeh Hospital’s new building was put into operation in 2013. Today, Mantasarih Hospital serves the health system in the form of an educational, research and treatment center for organ transplantation and dialysis.
Endowment-based activities in other cities
The therapeutic activities of Imam Reza shrine are not limited to Mashhad rather endowments in the field of health have been established in other cities of the country under the support of the devotees of the Holy Shrine of. Many different medical centers have been built and run in other Iranian cities as well.
