Green flag raised over Imam Reza Shrine’s dome as mourning period ends

After 63 days of Muharram and Safar mourning months, Imam Reza Shrine servants replace black flag with green banners of hope.

At dawn on August 27, coinciding with the 3rd day of Rabi al-Awwal—the third month on the lunar Islamic calendar—the black mourning flag atop the dome of Imam Reza Shrine was replaced with a green banner inscribed with the Quranic verse “Victory from Allah and an imminent conquest.”
In a spiritual ceremony attended by shrine servants, flag replacement ceremony marked conclusion of 63 days of mourning during Muharram and Safar, including commemorations for the martyrdom of Imam Reza. The black flag, which had flown since the beginning of Muharram, was lowered and replaced with the green symbol of renewal and divine promise.
Alongside the flag, mourning inscriptions around the shrine were also removed, signaling the transition from grief to spiritual hope.
