AQR unveils historical coins adorned with blessed name of Prophet Mohammad

Astan Quds Razavi (AQR) unveils two collections of historical coins bearing blessed name of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) at Imam Reza Shrine museum during its 258th scientific and cultural Tuesday program.

Referring to Quranic verses, head of the Organization of Libraries, Museums, and Documents Center of Astan Quds Razavi, Hoj. Seyyed Jalal Hosseini, stated: “Salvation of humanity depends on following prophetic teachings. We have a duty to follow true faith, honor Prophet Mohammad (pbuh), and support his school of thought according to the conditions of our time”.
Hosseini also referred to a memorandum of understanding between AQR and Cultural Museum Institute of the Mostazafan Foundation signed on August 10 this year, adding: “Holding this historical coin unveiling ceremony is the first step in implementing this memorandum of understanding”.
Speaking in the same ceremony, CEO of Cultural Museum Institute of Mostazafan Foundation of Islamic Revolution, Hamidreza Soleimani, said: At this ceremony, 8 historical coins in honor of the Eighth Imam (AS) along with 63 historical coins in honor of 63 blessed years of Prophet Mohammad’s (pbuh) life were unveiled”.
“These coins belong to this foundation and they have been collected over a period of thousands of years from various parts of the Islamic world”, Soleimani mentioned, adding “Implementing this joint program, we intended to re-publish message of unity in Islamic countries and we hoped that such bilateral interactions can lead to more effective programs in the near future”.
Also, in the same ceremony, Mohammad Taqi Saffar, a researcher and archaeologist, said: “The antiquity of the first Islamic standard coins dates back to 76 AH. From 77 AH, Dinar (gold) coins, and from 79 AH, Dirham (silver) coins of Islamic standard were used”.
This prominent coin endower also introduced a selection of historical coins bearing blessed name of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) available in the Astan Quds Razavi Museum. These coins belonged to different periods, 27 of which were unveiled at this ceremony”.
Subsequently, Katayoun Palasaeedi, chairperson of the board of directors at Museums of the Mostazafan Foundation of Islamic Revolution stated: “Designs on historical coins showed the ruler and religion in each period. In the Islamic period, however, we no longer have the image of the ruler on the coin, and Islamic phrases on the coins show the legitimacy of the Islamic government. In fact, government and religion in that period worked side by side”.
The ceremony was held on September 9, at the museum displaying Quran versions and gifts donated by the Leader on the eve of 1500th birth anniversary of the Prophet. Senior officials from both foundations attended the ceremony.
