During the special ceremony of ‘Ezn Aza’ (Mourning Permission), the golden dome of the shrine and Imam Reza’s tomb were shrouded in black on July 6 to mark the start of the Muharram (the first month on the lunar calendar), with mourning processions, shrine’s servants and pilgrims in attendance.
