Imam Reza shrine looks at sports as a valuable precursor of human instinct to acquire a healthy mind and body. Accordingly, the Physical Education Institute of the shrine has turned into one of the most important hubs for sports and physical and mental wellbeing with its four highly-equipped complexes as large as over 25 hectares.

The Physical Education Institute has concentrated its activities on three main axes of sports for personnel and their families, sports for the underprivileged areas in the suburbs of Mashhad (northeastern Iran), and cultural influence on sports on a national level.

The institute has a wide range of facilities such as Imam Reza roofed complex that can house 24,000 spectators, three water sports complexes, 20 sports halls, 20 outdoor areas for 25 sports for men, and 19 sports for women, etc.
