Imam Reza shrine active in Iran’s rail corridor

The first phase of Hamedan-Sanandaj railway – as part of Iran’s west rail corridor – has become operational under the auspices of Razavi Construction and Expansion Organization.

The 64-km railway, which is a part of 410-km Tehran-Hamedan-Sanandaj corridor, will facilitate cargo and passenger transportation, in addition to joining Hamedan and Kordestan provinces to the national rail network.

Given the strategic location of Iran, expanding international corridors for greater economic ties has been one of the priorities on the current administration’s agenda.

According to Saeed Abdi, the CEO of Razavi Construction and Expansion Organization, the Hamedan-Sanandaj railway will stretch 151 km, 64 km of which has become up and running.

“The railway stretches through Hamedan Province to reach Sanandaj (the capital of Kordestan Province). It’s comprised of three phases, the longest of which has been contracted to Razavi organization”, said Abdi.

Abdi added that the railway would connect the north to the south of the country in the west, which fulfilled one of the wishes of the government and the local people.

As for the numerous benefits of the railway, Abdi noted: “The expansion of transportation network, improving the safety standards, and reducing fuel consumption are among the benefits of the railway”.

“This railway will also play a pivotal role in the elimination of poverty in the region via economic growth as a result of raising the provinces’ shares in national transit, increasing the number of tourists, etc.”, added he.

Further in his remarks, Abdi said that the railway would also connect northwestern border crossings of Bazargan, Jolfa and Razi to Bandar-e Emam Khomeyni in the southwest. “Considering that Bazargan is the largest land crossing, and Bandar-e Emam is the second largest port of the country, the railway will result in the development of western Iran via the expansion of environment-friendly transportation network”.
