The biggest ever coming of age ceremony for 70,000 young girls has been held in Imam Reza shrine in northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad.

Some 700 young girls from Mashhad celebrated their coming of age for religious duties in an event called ‘Flight of Butterflies’ in Dar al-Rahmah Portico as a part of similar ceremonies underway in the shrine.

The event was featured with a variety of programs such as a special song that the girls chanted together.

Pilgrims from across the world also took part in the ceremony.

Attending the event, the Chief Director of Imam Reza shrine congratulated the young girls and reminded them of the blessing to celebrate the important stage of their life in the shrine urging them to feel responsible towards their parents.

At the end of the ceremony, Chadors (Islamic veil) for prayers were gifted to the young girls on the most memorable day of their life.
