Custodian asks new administration to pay attention to pilgrimage to boost religious culture, natl. security

The Custodian of Imam Reza shrine has called on Iran’s new administration to pay special attention to pilgrimage in a bid to boost religious culture and national security.

Speaking in a meeting with the representatives of Khorasan Razavi Province in the 12th Islamic Consultative Assembly, which was held in Velayat Hall of the shrine, in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad, Hoj Ahmad Marvi praised the efforts by the late Iranian president, martyr Ebrahim Raeisi, asserting: “Martyr Raeisi laid the groundwork for efficient measures with regard to pilgrimage, and we hope the new administration together with the parliament would join forces to implement them”.
He stressed that pilgrimage would positively affect individuals and society, adding: “Pilgrimage boosts religious culture and national solidarity and security”.
Hoj Marvi further drew attention to the role of the Islamic Consultative Assembly in facilitating pilgrimage to holy shrines in Iraq, and suggested that a ‘Pilgrimage Provinces’ Fraction’ be set up in the parliament, saying: “Establishing such a fraction comprised of three provinces of Khorasan Razavi, Qom and Fars can greatly facilitate pilgrimage to other holy sites”.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the shrine’s custodian pointed to some important pilgrims’ demands in Mashhad such as parking space, cheap accommodation, public transport, etc.
He concluded his remarks by talking about cooperation between Imam Reza shrine and civil management and governmental offices to address pilgrims’ problems in Mashhad, saying: “The shrine has temporarily allocated the underpass for parking space; however, it had been initially designed for worshipping and praying purposes. Moreover, the underpass cannot meet the demand for the required parking space, and the shrine needs it on special occasions”.
