The festivities marking the birth anniversary of Hazrat Zeinab – a symbol of patience and resilience in Islamic history – were held over several days and included a variety of programs aimed at honoring her legacy and inspiring the community.
A grand celebration took place in Imam Khomeini Portico of the shrine on the evening of November 7, in which an impassioned speech was delivered, praising Hazrat Zeinab for her courageous stand against the tyranny of Yazid (2nd Umayyad Caliph).
Her enduring legacy of resistance, and how it continues to inspire movements such as the Palestinian struggle against oppression was the main theme.
Another special program for female pilgrims titled ‘Nurse of Affections’ got underway at Najmeh Khatun Portico of the shrine.
During this program, a female scholar, Ms. Saeedeh Ansari, spoke about Hazrat Zeinab’s multifaceted roles as a daughter, wife, mother, and a warrioress for justice.
The program also included cultural and religious competitions, with awards being given to the winners, and special recognition of the sacrifices made by the wives of war veterans from the 8-year Iran-Iraq war.
Also, the Dar al-Quran department of the shrine organized a Quran recitation program dubbed ‘Razavi Recitation Gathering’, with prominent Quranic reciters reciting verses of the Holy Book. The event, held in Imam Khomeini Portico, also featured a performance by the shrine's Tawasheeh group, celebrating the birth of Hazrat Zeinab.
Further, the celebrations continued with poetic tributes and religious chants, with a speech on Hazrat Zeinab's pivotal role in preserving the message of Karbala through her eloquent speeches during and after the tragedy of Ashura (61 AH).
Imam Reza Shrine in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad was filled with joy and devotion on November 7 as pilgrims and local residents gathered to celebrate the birth anniversary of Hazrat Zeinab (sister of Imam Hussein, 2nd Shia Imam).
