Coinciding with the Imamate and Wilayah ten-day celebrations, the 246th Scientific and Cultural Tuesday Program of Astan Quds Razavi (AQR) focused on revitalization of the Quran Museum at the shrine.
The event was attended by Ayat. Ahmad Marvi, the Custodian of Astan Quds Razavi, Abdolhamid Talebi, head of the Scientific and Cultural Organization, and Hoj. Seyed Jalal Hosseini, director of the Libraries, Museums, and Documents Organization, along with scholars, artists, and museum experts.
Speaking in the event, Hoj. Hosseini highlighted the museum’s origins, tracing its establishment to 1967 under the supervision of Baqer Pirnia, with contributions from Ahmad Golchin Ma’ani and Abolqasem Ketabdari. “The museum was later expanded in 1985 following a directive by Ayat. Khamenei during his presidency, alongside Ayat. Va’ez Tabasi, then custodian of Astan Quds Razavi”.
The museum’s transformation plan includes increasing displayed manuscripts from 85 to 114, showcasing the evolution of Quranic calligraphy and artistic embellishments from a collection of over 23,000 Quranic texts. The project also emphasizes the international significance of Imam Reza’s artistic traditions, featuring works from renowned Quranic scribes.
Additionally, the museum now presents rare Quranic artifacts, some of which have no known counterparts worldwide. Visitors may access multimedia content via their smartphones, including text, audio, and images, enhancing their engagement with the exhibits. A virtual tour has also been introduced, allowing remote access to digitalized Quranic manuscripts.
Elsewhere in the meeting, Morteza Tavakoli, deputy director of the Quran Printing and Publishing Center, explained: “There is a two-year selection process for new exhibits, considering historical significance, scholarly value, artistic merit, and literary contributions”.
“The museum’s collection reflects diverse geographical origins, including works from Iranian, Indian, and regional Islamic calligraphers”, he stressed.
The revitalization plan aims to preserve and promote Quranic heritage, offering scholars and visitors an enriched experience.
The event concluded with a tour of the museum’s new exhibits, including the iBeacon smart guidance system, introduced for the first time in Iran.

The Quran Museum at Imam Reza Shrine undergoes a comprehensive transformation, enhancing its collection and visitor experience.
