A farewell ceremony for 13 martyrs of the recent Israeli attacks was held on Thursday evening, June 26, at Imam Reza shrine, drawing thousands of pilgrims and local residents to Imam Khomeini Portico.
The event coincided with the first night of Muharram, intensifying the spiritual and emotional atmosphere.
As the coffins were brought into the portico, the crowd erupted in chants of “Death to Israel,” “Death to America,” and “Death to the hypocrite,” echoing throughout the shrine.
Attendees also repeated slogans such as “Hussein is our call, martyrdom is our pride,” “Abalfazl the standard-bearer, protect Khamenei,” and “O free leader, we are ready,” expressing gratitude for the leadership of Ayat. Khamenei during the recent days of hardship.
The ceremony honored the martyrs—Generals Mohammad Kazemi, Morteza Bakhshi, Seyyed Mohsen Kazemi, Reza Barati, Mehdi Nazari, Mojtaba Erfanian, Mostafa Jafari, Amirhossein Mazini, Dr. Hashemi, Mostafavi, Hassan Ahmadi, Shahideh Taheri, and Zahra Nazari—whose bodies were laid before the crowd for final respects.
Ayat. Ahmad Alamolhoda, Friday Prayer Imam of Mashhad, led the funeral prayer.
A deeply moving moment came when the children of the martyrs stood beside the coffins of their parents. The crowd rose in respect, many moved to tears. The eulogist evoked the memory of the three-year-old daughter of Imam Hussein, drawing parallels that stirred the hearts of all present.
The simultaneous timing of the ceremony with the start of Muharram added a profound layer of grief and devotion. Chants of “O lonely Hussein” and “Labbaik Ya Hussein” filled the air, renewing spirits and anchoring hearts in the legacy of Karbala.
The ceremony concluded with collective prayers for the reappearance of Imam Mahdi, the protection of Iran, and the downfall of oppressive regimes.
According to official announcements, the funeral procession for the martyrs will take place on Friday, June 27, beginning at 9:30 a.m. from Basij Square to Imam Reza shrine, with large crowds expected to attend.
