The ceremony, which was accompanied by fervent presence of Imam Hussein's mourners, started by recitation of Ashura prayer led by Mohammad Javad Jamei. In this ceremony, which was held at Imam Khomeini portico, attendees expressed their devotion to Imam Hussein (AS) and his loyal children and companions. They also offered their condolences for this great tragedy to their lords, Imam Reza (AS), and Imam Mahdi (AS).
Following this magnificent ceremony, Ayatollah Alamolhoda, Friday prayer leader of Mashhad, recounted Maqtal Khani of Imam Hussein (AS) and a moment-by-moment report of the events of the day of Ashura based on reliable historical sources and books.
The ceremony was accompanied by lamentation and eulogy of the eulogist and reciter of Ahl al-Bayt (AS), Amir Aref. At the end of the ceremony, mourners raised their hands in prayer for the hastening of the reappearance of the avenger of Imam Hussein's blood.

Ashura’s traditional ritual of Maqtal Khani was held by Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Alamolhoda, Leader’s representative in Khorasan Razavi province, in Imam Reza Shrine on the tenth day of Muharram.
