Beneficial knowledge, self-purification key to transformation of Humanities: Custodian

Custodian of Astan Quds Razavi calls for deeper integration of spirituality in academic training of seminary students.

Ayat. Ahmad Marvi emphasized the importance of linking knowledge with spirituality in the study of humanities.
Speaking at the launch of the project “Creating Discourse and Intellectual Engagement of Seminary Students in the Humanities,” held on Wednesday, July 23, at the Razavi Pilgrims’ Guesthouse in Mashhad, AQR’s Custodian stated: “Expanding beneficial knowledge and self-purification is essential for meaningful transformation in this field”.
Ayat. Marvi praised the initiative as a valuable step toward the intellectual and ethical development of young seminary students.
He referred to the tradition of great scholars who sought spiritual inspiration at the graves of righteous figures to resolve academic challenges.
“Holding educational sessions near the resting place of Imam Reza brings spiritual blessings and enhances the depth and impact of scholarly discussions”, the top official noted.
He stressed: “Knowledge must be beneficial—serving human guidance, divine understanding, and addressing the needs of modern society”.
Such knowledge, he said, elevates the soul and leads society toward growth and justice.
“Beneficial knowledge must be learned from those who embody it and apply it in the path of self-purification”, he added.
“If a person lacks divine insight, their teachings will not benefit others”, Ayat. Marvi continued.
He warned of Satan’s traps for scholars and seminary students, noting: “Even religious figures are vulnerable to fault”.
“One hidden danger”, he said, “is falling into self-centeredness, fame-seeking, and attachment to followers, which can derail the path of self-purification”.
He shared a memory of the late Ayat. Haj Hossein Qomi to emphasize the need for scholarly and spiritual vigilance.
He urged seminary students to pursue knowledge with sincerity, piety, insight, and reliance on the Quran and Ahl al-Bayt.
“By doing so, they can become radiant beacons of guidance in society”, he concluded.
