Nation mourns Prophet Muhammad, Imam Hassan with Quranic unity, shrine ceremonies

Spiritual unity and solemn rituals sweep across Iran as believers commemorate Safar’s final night with reverence and grief.

On the eve of Prophet Muhammad’s passing and Imam Hassan’s martyrdom, thousands across Iran participated in a nationwide Quranic initiative titled “Siraj Allah” (Divine Light).
Under the auspices of the Quranic Affairs Center of Astan Quds Razavi, worshippers gathered in sacred sites and Quranic assemblies after evening prayers to recite Surah al-Fat’h in unison on August 22.
The spiritual reward of this collective act was dedicated to Imam Reza, symbolizing unity and reaffirming the bond between Prophethood and Imamate.
At Imam Reza Shrine, grief enveloped the courtyards as mourners commemorated the final night of Safar, the second month on the lunar Islamic calendar.
Pilgrims entered with tearful eyes and sorrowful hearts, expressing devotion to Prophet Muhammad and his grandson Imam Hassan.
The shrine’s Imam Khomeini Portico hosted a special ceremony where visitors joined the eulogist in reciting Ziyarat Aminullah and listening to elegies that evoked the pain of Medina.
Hoj. Naser Rafiei delivered a sermon reflecting on verse 15 of Surah Ash-Shura, outlining five pillars of the Prophet’s mission: divine invitation, steadfastness, resistance against enemy desires, adherence to Quranic principles, and justice.
He emphasized: “The Prophet endured through trials such as the economic boycott in Shi’b Abi Talib and the migration to Abyssinia”.
On August 22, a mourning procession by the “Alem-e Al-e Muhammad” assembly marked the end of Safar.
Under the aegis of shrine staff and volunteers, participants entered through Bab al-Kazim and moved through the courtyards of Prophet al-Azam, Ghadir, and Jomhouri, chanting “O’ Dear Reza.”
The eulogist’s heartfelt recitations stirred deep emotion among the crowd, reinforcing their spiritual bond with the Ahl ul-Bait.
