Azadi Courtyard in Imam Reza shrine was built on Fath-Ali Shah Qajar’s orders, and decoration works in it finished by the end of Qajar’s dynasty (1789–1925); therefore, it is a pure manifestation of Qajarid arts and architecture. The façade of the courtyard was finished during the Pahlavi Era (1925-1979) based on Mohammad Hassan Rezvan’s style. He was one of the latest traditional artists, who rendered some innovations in a traditional framework. The artist tended to revived Safavid and Timurid inscriptional style in the courtyard.
