The traditional ceremony dubbed ‘Hel Helalak Ya Ramadan’ (literally meaning "The crescent moon has appeared, O Ramadan"), was held on the last day of Sha'ban, March 1, under the auspices of the Deputy Office for Non-Iranian Pilgrims Affairs of Astan Quds Razavi, coinciding with evening prayers, in the courtyards and porticos of Imam Reza Shrine.The ceremony signifies the sighting of the new moon that marks the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.
