"Razavi Pilgrimage" registration case to be sent to UNESCO this year

The deputy in charge of cultural heritage at Astan Quds Razavi Libraries, Museums and Documentation Center says request for registration of "Razavi Pilgrimage" in UNESCO’s list of cultural heritage will be filed this year.

Speaking on the occasion of Cultural Heritage Week, Mahdi Gheisari stated that “The first step for placing the tangible and intangible heritage of Astan Quds Razavi in the list of national and spiritual monuments of Iran, was taken in January 2020 by registering Razavi Pilgrimage.”

“Certainly, with the registration of Razavi Pilgrimage in the list of Iran's national-spiritual heritage, a new path to introduce the intangible heritage of Razavi sacred premises to the world has been unfolded”, he added.

According to Gheisari, accomplishing registration of Razavi Pilgrimage in UNESCO’s Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage will mark the start of a new path in this field.

Pointing to registration of 65 peculiar works of the Razavi Museum in the list of Iran’s national works during 2000-2002, the official said: “Last year, besides registration of tangible heritage of the Razavi Museum, the intangible heritage of Astan Quds Razavi, including sermons and Suffeh ritual (Quranic recitation), were also included in the agenda.”

He went on to say: “These cases have been completed and submitted to the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts along with a video of the rituals to be registered. Thus, we hope these two valuable rituals of the Imam Reza shrine would be registered in the list of spiritual heritage of the country early this year.”
