Speaking in ceremony for the construction of Amir al-Mu’minin Portico in the shrine, Hoj Ahmad Marvi, commemorated the late former custodian, Ayat. Vaez Tabasi for his hard work to expand the area of the shrine ten-fold.
He touched upon the considerable number of pilgrims visiting the shrine, which necessitates some restoration works in some buildings, saying: “Imam Reza shrine needs some restoration works in some sections so that we can facilitate pilgrimage, and boost visual and artistic attractions in it as well”.
Stressing the significance of a scientific and consultative approach that refrains from idiosyncrasies, Hoj Marvi noted: “Impulsive and indiosyncratic works are disapproved of in the shrine, as they are considered mostly to the detriment of such a sacred and magnificent monument in the world; therefore, construction and restorations projects in the shrine have always been conferred with Iranian, and even non-Iranian experts”.
The custodian added that most construction works in the shrine have been undertaken by benefactors.
Amir al-Mu’minin Portico is set to be constructed between Ghadir and Jomhuri Eslami porticos in the shrine in a bid to increase the vaulted areas and to prop up Jomhuri Eslami Portico. The construction is expected to finish by 2025-26.
