Central Library keeps 114-year-old Quatrains of Khayyam

Imam Reza holy shrine’s Central Library is maintaining a 114-year-old copy of Khayyam’s Quatrains translated by famous translator Edward FitzGerald.

Briefing reporters on the details of this work, Sakineh Alavi Far, an expert at Central Library’s hall for foreign language books said: “This work has been published in 1910 and there are only 550 ones of this copy in the world now”.

She said: “This book has been beautifully decorated by a pictorial design with peacocks on its cover page”.

Alavi Far added: “There are 12 pictures in this book for creation of which chromolithography technique that was popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries has been used”.

She further noted: “75 quatrains of Khayyam have been masterfully translated into English by translator Edward Fitzgerald in this book. At the end of this work, there is a list of necessary explanations and tips about most of the quatrains as well”.
