According to the Head of Organization of Libraries, Museums and Documents, the achievement has improved the ranking of the museums in three more categories compared to the previous year.
“Imam Reza shrine museums have secured the top ranking in a wide range of items such as presentation, education, maintenance and protection among other museums in Iran. Also, it ranked second in implementation of physical standards, visiting, collecting, etc.”, explained Hoj Seyyed Jalal Hosseini.
Hosseini also pointed to the third position gained by the shrine museums in children and young adults’ activities, and those for physically challenged visitors.
In a ceremony marking the International Museum Day, some 833 private and public museums in Iran have been vetted and judged, with heads of museums, UNESCO and ICOM representatives in attendance.
The International Council of Museums has one of the largest portfolios of specialized publications, reports and databases related to museums and their specializations, which are stored at the UNESCO-ICOM Museum Information Center.
