Sarakhs emerges as key economic, transit hub

Sarakhs Special Economic Zone showcases strategic importance in international transit and economic development.

The Deputy Security Chief of Khorasan Razavi Province, Amirollah Shamaghadri, and his entourage visited Sarakhs Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to assess its logistical and industrial infrastructure.

Inspections focused on rail hubs, fuel storage tanks, and transit roads vital for transport of goods.

Industrial units were also evaluated to address challenges and explore export potential.

Shamaghadri highlighted the need for enhanced collaboration, security, infrastructure development, noting Sarakhs’ potential to emerge as a key economic center.

 “Sarakhs possesses necessary potentials to become a pivotal economic hub both nationally and internationally”, he stated.

Also speaking at the National Transit and International Corridors Conference, Mohammadreza Rajabi Moghaddam, CEO of SEZ, underscored Sarakhs strategic role at the crossroads of northern-southern and eastern-western transit corridors.

“The region’s infrastructure, including access to railways and proximity to eastern borders, positions Sarakhs uniquely in global transit”, he highlighted.

Moghaddam emphasized Sarakhs’ role in advancing global transit and efficient production, saying, “The region’s geographical location and access to Central Asian markets enhance non-oil exports and industries with value-added potential”.

“Sustainable development and leveraging existing capacities will make SEZ a driving force in the nation’s economy”, he added.

Sarakhs’ unique position, infrastructure, and strategic importance in both transit and industrial development were also highlighted in the event.

"Sarakhs is set to become a key economic player within Iran and on the international stage”, Moghaddam concluded.
