New Sarakhs-China rail link to boost Iran's auto industry

The new Sarakhs-China rail link is expected to create significant opportunities for Iran's automotive industry.

A joint meeting was held among the representative of Sarakhs in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, the CEO of Sarakhs Special Economic Zone (SEZ), the governor of the county, and senior managers of Iran Khodro Company.
The session focused on transit capacity, raw material supply, and expanding exports to CIS regions.
Mohammadreza Rajabi Moqaddam, the CEO of Sarakhs Special Economic Zone, highlighted the logistical advantages of the region and noted the interest of Chinese investors.
“The Sarakhs-China rail link will reduce material transfer time from two months via sea to 13 days, and potentially 5-7 days with future developments”, he explained.
Plans for a joint Iran-China logistics center were also announced, aimed at facilitating the transport of goods between China, West Asia, Eurasia, and the Persian Gulf, reducing production costs and streamlining exports.
Welcoming the proposals, the senior managers of Iran Khodro announced plans to assess the region's transit and export capacities.
It has been stipulated that, initially, 300 wagons per month will be used to transfer raw materials and products via the rail route.
The cooperation between SEZ and Iran Khodro promises reduced raw material supply times, increased speed, lower production costs, and easier car exports to international markets. With these initiatives, Sarakhs could become a key logistical center for Iran's automotive industry, boosting economic growth and cross-border trade.
