14 countries confirmed for 4th Imam Reza Intl. Athletics Cup in Mashhad

Athletes from 14 countries are to participate in the 4th Imam Reza International Athletics Cup, set to take place in shrine city of Mashhad, northeast Iran, says Ehsan Haddadi, President of Iran’s Athletics Federation.

Speaking at a press conference on April 10 at Pardisan Hotel in Mashhad, Haddadi highlighted: “The tournament provides an exceptional opportunity to showcase Iran’s culture and values to the world”.
Stressing the importance of the event, Haddadi noted: “The tournament has become a prestigious symbol for Iran’s athletics and efforts must be made to ensure its successful execution”.
Countries confirmed to participate include Bahrain, Somalia, Afghanistan, Kenya, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Oman, and Iraq.
Iran will be represented by its national team as well as a team of top athletes.
Additionally, Pakistan’s javelin champion, who will compete in Paris Olympics, is among the participants, while talks and correspondence with athletes from the USA, Serbia, and Croatia are ongoing.
Scheduled for May 5–6 at Imam Reza Stadium, the event promises various side activities designed to energize Iran’s athletics community for a productive year.
Providing updates on preparations, including referee training sessions, athlete accommodations, and stadium arrangements, Reza Aminzadeh, the CEO of Astan Quds Razavi's Physical Education Institute emphasized: “The event has potentials to highlight Iran’s cultural heritage and the city of Mashhad as an international hub.”
Also, Alireza Taj Firouz, Director-General of Sports and Youth for Khorasan Razavi Province, commended efforts to elevate the tournament’s standing in the global athletics calendar.
He expressed hope for its enhanced recognition as a “C-level” event in the World Athletics Federation schedule.
