Global Congress on Imam Reza, platform for reviving Shia culture

The 4th preliminary session of the 6th Global Congress on Imam Reza will convene on Monday, May 5, at Imam Reza Shrine (northeast Iran), gathering delegates from 21 countries along with Iran’s President.

The Scientific and Cultural Organization of Astan Quds Razavi (AQR) has announced the upcoming session of the congress, set to coincide with Karamat Ten-Day Celebrations.
Approved by the AQR’s scientific council, this year’s congress centers on ‘human rights and dignity’, drawing from the teachings of the Ahlul-Bayt as a divine model for addressing contemporary challenges.
Speaking in the event,  Hoj. Saeed Reza Ameli, the congress’s scientific secretary, emphasized the urgency of revisiting Shia values amid global human rights violations, including violence and oppression in Gaza.
“The congress seeks to present an Islamic framework for a just and sustainable legal order”, he noted.
Among the key topics, the congress will explore ‘human dignity and legal rights’, analyzing Imam Reza’s teachings on justice and respect for individuals. It will examine dignity through spiritual obligations, personal responsibilities, and ethical frameworks shaping social and legal systems.
The core ‘human rights in Imam Reza’s thought’ will also be discussed, covering civil, political, and economic rights, along with protections for vulnerable groups.
Additionally, the congress will address ‘challenges in safeguarding dignity’, critiquing secular human rights models, investigating violations, and examining media’s role in promoting justice.
The official opening ceremony on May 5 will feature distinguished Iranian scholars, including the Minister of Science and the President of the Academy of Sciences.
Also, a recorded message from Ayat. Jawadi Amoli is expected, alongside keynote presentations from international thought leaders.
Following the opening, the congress will host seven expert sessions, featuring 40 selected research papers.
The closing ceremony will include speeches by Ayat. Marvi, AQR’s Custodian, and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian.
A dedicated discussion on ‘Gaza and resistance rights’ will also be held at Imam Reza International University on May 6, focusing on the humanitarian consequences of mass killings and sanctions.
