Changing tomb cloth, floral tribute underway at Imam Reza shrine on his birth anniv.

On the blessed morning of Imam Reza’s birth anniversary, his shrine in Mashhad, northeast Iran, witnessed two grand ceremonies—one honoring the tradition of changing the tomb cloth and flag, the other a heartfelt floral tribute by the shrine’s servants.

As dawn broke on May 9, Imam Reza shrine was immersed in spiritual reverence and devotion.
The first ceremony, held at Enghelab Eslami Courtyard, marked the changing of the shrine’s tomb cloth and dome flag.
Attended by directors, officials, and shrine's servants, the event commenced with a Quranic recitation, followed by a speech.
In a moment of deep spiritual reflection, poets led eulogies, culminating in the resounding beat of the birth anniversary’s Naqareh (a Middle Eastern traditional percussion instrument, often played in pairs).
The ceremony was broadcast live on national television.
Simultaneously, in another poignant tribute, more than 700 servants gathered for a floral shower across the shrine’s courtyards.
With hearts full of devotion, they adorned the paths from Bagh Rezvan to Sheikh Tabarsi Gate, carrying bouquets of vibrant blossoms.
Colonel Asadi, commander of shrine security forces, described the event as a symbol of love rooted in devotion.
“Serving here is an honor. These flowers are nothing compared to the affection we hold within,” he remarked.
In a moment of heartfelt expression, a servant shared, “Every time I step into the shrine, my heart trembles. Today, this ceremony felt different.”
For them, this was not just a ritual—it was a covenant of love with Imam Reza.
