Pilgrims and local residents gathered at Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad to offer their condolences on the occasion of martyrdom anniversary of Imam Muhammad Baqir, recite elegies, and participate in prayers honoring the 5th Shia Imam.
The commemorations included a special program in the Prophet Muhammad Courtyard, featuring the recitation of a prayer and elegies.
Hoj. Mostafa Rostami, a religious expert, delivered a speech highlighting Imam Baqir’s contributions to Islamic scholarship, emphasizing his role in reviving religious sciences despite the oppressive rule of the Umayyads.
“Imam Baqir established a structured educational system, ensuring the dissemination of Islamic teachings”, he noted.
In a separate gathering, the ‘Imam Ali ibn Musa al-Reza Religious Assembly’ held a mourning session to honor both Imam Baqir’s martyrdom and the anniversary of Imam Khomeini’s passing.
The event, attended by Ayat. Ahmad Marvi, the Custodian of Astan Quds Razavi, and other officials, featured discussions on the significance of religious education and revolutionary thought.
Speaking in the mourning ceremony, Hoj. Khanzadeh, head of the assembly, introduced scholarly initiatives aimed at training students in Islamic jurisprudence, including the publication of the book ‘Revolutionary Seminary’.
Additionally, Ayat. Seyed Ahmad Alamolhoda, representative of the Leader in Khorasan Razavi Province, addressed mourners at Imam Khomeini Portico, emphasizing: “Imam Baqir played a fundamental role in shaping Shia intellectual and cultural identity”.
He described Imam Baqir’s era as a turning point in Shia history, noting: “The Imam leveraged the weakening Umayyad rule to spread Islamic teachings”.
He highlighted Imam Baqir’s strategic use of ‘taqiyya’ to protect Shia communities from political persecution, ensuring the survival of their religious traditions. Taqiyya is an Islamic concept that refers to concealing one’s beliefs in situations that revealing them could lead to harm or persecution.
The ceremonies concluded with poetry recitations, elegies, and congregational prayers led by Ayat. Alamolhoda, reinforcing the enduring legacy of Imam Muhammad Baqir’s scholarly and spiritual contributions.
