Coinciding with the beginning of Muharram, the Deputy Office for Non-Iranian Pilgrims’ Affairs at Astan Quds Razavi has announced a series of special programs for international visitors during the first ten days of the Islamic month.
According to Mehdi Lasani, director of the office, mourning ceremonies will be held from June 26 to July 5, 2025, featuring religious delegations from countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq.
These groups will participate in sermons, elegies, and devotional recitations across various sacred spaces within Imam Reza shrine.
“These spiritual gatherings offer a unique opportunity for international pilgrims to strengthen their emotional and cultural ties with the Ashura tradition in the illuminated atmosphere of the shrine” he emphasized.
Among the key events are mourning ceremonies in Quds Courtyard on the third night of Muharram (June 29), and special Urdu-language programs in Ghadir Portico from June 26 to July 5, featuring prominent speakers and eulogists.
Additional commemorations for the martyrdom of Imam Sajjad will also be held in Ghadir Portico on July 6, 7, 19, and 20.
Arabic-language programs will begin on the first night of Muharram in Ghadir Courtyard, including the flag replacement ritual, sermons, and Komeil Prayer. These events aim to preserve the Ashura legacy, promote the teachings of Imam Hussein, and strengthen the bond between non-Iranian pilgrims and the school of Ahl al-Bayt.

Imam Reza shrine will hold special Ashura-themed events to deepen spiritual connection for international pilgrims during the mourning month of Muharram.
