Iranian, Turkmen officials visit Sarakhs Special Economic Zone

Having promotion of border exchanges and development of economic ties between two neighboring countries as their main approaches, both Iranian and Turkmen customs deputies have paid a visit to the customs and infrastructures of Sarakhs Special Economic Zone.

Referring to the great situation of the zone, Mehmet Goldioff, Turkmenistan’s customs deputy, said: “Now that Sarakhs Special Economic Zone has changed into a free trade zone, I hope to see a promotion in regional as well as Iran-Turkmenistan trade ties”.

Pointing to expansion of customs relations particularly with Sarakhs as a main priority for his respected government, Goldioff stressed: “It is now years that we have been enjoying Iran’s experiences in customs affairs; construction of international bridge between the two countries and road as well as railway connections are some projects we can refer to”. 

Also in the same visit, Ibrahim Naqdi, customs deputy of the Islamic Republic of Iran said: “This zone has got many exclusive advantages and facilities among which existence of 50 kilometers of wide railway can be pointed to. This capacity can change Sarakhs into a future logistics hub for region’s trade and commerce”.

Naqdi further noted: “The zone also gives very good road services to the trucks moving between Iran and Turkmenistan".

He concluded: “Facilities and infrastructures in Sarakhs Special Economic Zone show that this region has necessary potential to develop foreign investments as much as possible; we are even trying to make joint investments between Iran and Turkmenistan”.

Briefing high-ranking officials and the press present in the zone, Mohammad Reza Bahremand, Sarakhs Economic Zone’s deputy for development of management and human sources, said: “We hope to have a climax in Iran-Turkmenistan relations by making the Sarakhs zone’s activities 24/7”.

Bahremend also stated: “Facilitating trains and trucks movements is one of the main benefits of a 24/7 border port. Programmed train trajectories between Iran and China can be realized by making the border a round the clock one”.

The visit also had some other Iranian and Turkmen participants both from public and private sectors in attendance.
