“Montaseriyeh Hospital was founded over 100 years ago as an endowment by Ehteram al-Saltaneh who endowed properties of her late husband to Imam Reza holy shrine for the purpose of building a hospital in Mashhad. This hospital was active for decades; however, it stopped work because of old building and facilities. Imam Reza holy shrine’s supports returned the hospital to service again in 2010”, Akbarian said.
He added: “Having various operation theaters, ICUs, hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, an emergency base, specialized and subspecialized clinics, specialized laboratory according to the needs of the organ transplant departments, radiology and color Doppler ultrasound and a unit for providing transplanted organs, Montaseriyeh offers a wide variety of services to both Iranian and non-Iranian pilgrims”.
According to the CEO of the hospital, “Thanks to the endeavors of its 234 personnel and 63 surgent, the center has conducted organ transplant surgeries to five thousand and 931 patients since its reconstruction in 2010”.
Ali Akbarian further noted: “Health Tourism Department of the hospital was opened in 2021 and it has had liver and kidney transplant surgeries on 55 patients from Lebanon, Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan”.
Referring to the hospital’s educational services to patients and their families, Dr. Ali Akbarian said: “Due to the importance and special conditions of transplant patients, the patient education unit of the hospital was opened to offer education to patients and their families before and after transplant surgery. Also, 25 educational pamphlets have been prepared and printed for transplant and dialysis patients to give them necessary information about their new situation”.
As one of the biggest and oldest endowment-based hospitals in the country and as the only organ transplant center in eastern Iran, Montaseriyeh Hospital has conducted over six thousand organ transplants for both Iranian and non-Iranian patients, says Mohsen Ali Akbarian, the CEO of the hospital.
