Bosnia and Herzegovina library director praises Razavi Library

In an appreciation letter, the director of Gazi Husrev-beg Library in Bosnia and Herzegovina praised Astan Quds Razavi’ Center for Library, Museums, and Documents for their cooperation in accepting and restoring the 500-year-old manuscript of Hafez’s Divan.

Jenan Handžić, the director of Gazi Husrev-beg Library in Bosnia and Herzegovina, along with the library’s restoration expert, Ruhollah Hadjić, visited the Central Library of Astan Quds Razavi during their pilgrimage to Mashhad in September 2024.
The visit aimed to introduce the director to the capacities of Astan Quds Razavi, especially the Library, Museums, and Documents Center, and to conduct a restoration workshop for the Bosnian restorer.
The cooperation involved restoring a valuable 500-year-old manuscript of Hafez’s Divan (a Persian lyric poet born in 1325 AD) from the Sarajevo library.
The Bosnian expert, with the assistance of restoration experts from AQR’s Central Library, spent 13 days restoring the manuscript in Mashhad.
The restoration process included evaluating and diagnosing the manuscript, repairing the damaged cover, selecting and coloring pages, reinforcing pages, sewing the manuscript, and making an ornate leather box.
The Bosnian restorer received necessary training during the restoration.
The 488th anniversary of the establishment of Gazi Husrev-beg Library in Sarajevo was celebrated in January, highlighting the collaboration with the Islamic Republic of Iran in restoring the manuscript.
The event included appreciation for AQR’s Center for Library, Museums, and Documents and the Cultural Counsellor of the Iranian Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The ceremony was attended by the Grand Mufti of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the president of Sarajevo University, cultural institution directors, and academic and cultural elites.
Additionally, the documentary “Sarajevo Divan – The Journey of a Manuscript,” which narrates the transfer and restoration process, was screened for the first time. The documentary was produced in cooperation with the media community of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Islamic Culture and Communication Organization’s media and virtual space cooperation office.
