Quran education center trains 300,000 children, expands internationally

The first whispers of the Quranic Affairs Center of Astan Quds Razavi (AQR) date back to 2017, when it was tasked with responsibilities beyond Imam Reza shrine, both nationally and internationally.

After six years of operation, the center has implemented various Quranic programs for different levels, from Mahd al-Reza to advanced Quranic courses, targeting all segments of society.
The Mahd al-Reza project, promoting Quranic teachings among children, started in 1998. Initially launched with two pilot classes, it expanded through instructor training courses. By 2017, it grew from 9 to 31 provinces and now boasts the largest pre-school Quran education network in the Islamic world.
From its inception to 2024, the center trained 300,000 five-year-old children in Quranic recitation through storytelling and play. In 2024 alone, 25,000 students benefited from Mahd al-Reza classes, with 12,000 in Mashhad, northeast Iran.
The 2024-2025 academic year marks the 26th year of these classes.
The program currently operates in 239 cities and villages, employing nearly 1,000 instructors, and conducting 1,402 classes nationwide.
Students attend 90 two-hour sessions over eight months, learning Quranic recitation and Islamic teachings through specific books.
Internationally, the center's educational activities, based on storytelling and play, have been well received.
In 2023, Mahd al-Reza classes were held in Afghanistan, Germany, and Canada. By 2024, the program expanded to six countries, including Iraq, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia, benefiting over 1,000 Quranic students.
To extend the program's success, 170 Quran instructors from 15 countries were selected and trained by the Quranic Affairs Center.
