Imam Reza shrine hosts thousands of pilgrims for Iftar feast on Imam Hassan Mojtaba’s birth anniv.

On the night of the 15th of Ramadan, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Imam Hassan, the 2nd Shia Imam who is also known by his nickname as the ‘Generous of Ahlul Bayt’, a grand Iftar feast welcomed 38,000 fasting pilgrims at Imam Reza shrine and across Mashhad, northeast Iran.

According to the senior director of Imam Reza shrine, Reza Khorakian, “The distribution of 38,000 Iftar meals on the occasion of Imam Hassan Mojtaba’s birth anniversary has been the result of collaborative efforts by the Pilgrims’ Services Department, Holy Sites Department, and Imam Reza Guesthouse”.

Khorakian detailed that 10,000 guests were hosted at Imam Hassan Mojtaba Courtyard for the Iftar reception.

 Additionally, 4,000 pilgrims and locals were served blessed meals in Hazrat Zahra Pavilion and Imam Reza Guesthouse during the feast.

He further explained: “20,000 individuals were catered to at various stations surrounding the shrine, while another 4,000 meals were delivered across Mashhad, including directly to locals’ homes”.

Special invitations for these meals were distributed in neighborhoods and provided to underprivileged groups, such as individuals supported by welfare agencies and municipal workers.

“In addition to the sit-down meals, 40,000 light Iftar packs containing bread, cheese, and dates were handed out at teahouses and among congregational prayer lines in the shrine’s courtyards and pavilions”, Khorakian added.
